My STM - Student Technology Mentor - Experience.

By having the opportunity to be an STM I've learned to use several applications as well as gained so many and important skills that I know will help me throughout my life.
In the training, I'm being taught many applications from basic MS office tools to web design tools. I learned about the CSS language which stands for cascading style sheets language; a language used for developing web pages very similar to Html which I did not even know existed. I've strengthen my knowledge in dreamweaver as well as in design interface concepts. When I am actually working as an STM I have to help so many students, sometimes a whole class, in creating ePortfolios and utilizing blackboard. I am also assigned to work in the ePortfolio lab and I have to help the ePortfolio instructor if any of their students need any help.
Along with the classes and special projects that I have been assigned to work on, I once was assigned to work for the Def department to make some changes on their website. It was an enriched experience because I had to manage to communicate with the instructor sometimes by paper and sometimes with a interpreter. Right know I am also assigned to be the assistant of the instructor of a class specially designed for people who are high school teachers and do not know how to use the technology. Imagine me, a student, teaching the teachers! It feels so good =) In addition, I also have to help faculty and sometimes teach them if they do not know how to use any of the technologies provided by LaGuardia as it is the blackboard. Along with all the skills that I have learned, including managing and teaching a class, I also had the opportunity to participate in so many special events and share my experiences as a mentor.
I am so glad that I had the opportunity to be an STM and I'm very pleased that I had the opportunity to work with so helpful and good quality people as were my bosses and my coworkers.
