Course Description: This course presents occupational therapy theory base and process skills for evaluation and treatment of patients with physical and/or developmental disabilities. Topics include: data collection, problem solving, treatment planning and implementation, reassessment, family involvement, legal and ethical and regulatory issues, supervision of ancillary personnel and volunteers. Identification and management of functional performance deficits is the primary emphasis.

REFLECTION:

This class is about adult physical disabilities and pediatric disorders. This is the most challenging yet exciting part of this writer's career. One is urged to use clinical reasoning and critical thinking to plan and implement treatment. Knowledge of various dysfunctions and interventions in adult and pediatric population is paramount in preparation to full-time fieldwork and to be a successful clinician. This is one step closer to being an official Occupational Therapy Assistant!
