Course Description: This course examines changing ideas about the city and the changing impact of the city on American lifestyles. With reference to New York City, the course explores the origins and the social structure of the city. It focuses on the relationship of class to family, gender, education, ethnicity, religion, politics, and economics. Visits to housing projects, community organizations, or service delivery agencies will familiarize the students with the issues of planning and change in the city.

City Research - Venice

REFLECTION:

This class introduces students to structures of cities and the changes that it has undergone overtime. Fieldtrips around the neighborhood made learning more effective and fun. Fieldvisits in Harlem and Long Island City gave this writer an overview of the development of the said cities. Venice and Seattle are the two cities that this writer aims to visit in the near future. As one researched not only the cities' tourist attration but also way of living, it makes one consider residing or relocating in the mentioned cities.
