In my last
semester of the Registered Nurse program at LaGuardia Community
College, I was elected by my peers to be the Spring 2009 Nursing Club
President. As president I was fortunate to work very closely with
other students as well as our Nursing Club Mentor, Professor
McMillan-Coddington, so that students can view the Nursing Club as a
resource.
· Fluid and Electrolytes TutorialAs the president, I helped create workshops such as: · How to Write a Proper Nurse's Note Workshop I also used resources that were available to me; for example I invited a RN that works on a critical care unit and a RN who works at the Veteran’s Hospital to speak to students about specialty floor nursing. I also saw that a lot of students are interested in continuing their academic careers, such as obtaining their Bachelors (BSN) and Masters Degree in Nursing (MSN); I have invited Professors that started their career as a Associate Degree Nurse and have become Nurse Practioners to speak to students about what to expect as they advance in their academic careers. I would say that as President of the Nursing Club I have learned how to delegate responsibilities to my fellow nursing club officiers, how to speak comfortably in front of large crowds and most importantly how to be an advocate for my fellow students. It was a hectic semester for me, but I feel like I learned a lot about myself. I learned how to work as a team, how to be a leader and most importantly how to manage my time between my responsibilities to the Nursing Club and still studying for my classes. |
