I'm from Indonesia, the country where all people can find abundant natural resources and view its fascinating sceneries. I started my education at a Catholic school from kindergarten to junior high school. After graduating from junior high school, I continued my education at a Christian high school and had to adapt to the Christian community. I am going to live in the United States instead of staying in Indonesia after accomplishing my education because of the threat of terrorism from countries around it. There is news about terrorists who are being trained in those countries. My father is an entrepreneur, and my mother is a career woman. My sister is still studying in Indonesia. She will finish her high school by next year and come to United States to pursue her degree program. This shows that my family really supports the children to get a better education. It wouldn't matter if I were either a man or a woman, so I don't think that my gender will influence my goals. Besides, I love reading a lot. Ever since I was a kid, I was taught to be able to enjoy reading. This is because I was brought up in a family whose passion to read is second to none.

I never had any experience in studying at a college before entering LaGuardia Community College. I came to study in this country after graduating from high school. LaGuardia Community College has helped me reach my milestones. I have taken some computer courses such as Introduction to Computers and their Applications. I learned the vocabulary of the computer field and how computers work. In my computer class, I learned to develop real-world windows applications through event-driven language, such as Visual Basic. In Introduction to Computer, I was required to write several programs in an appropriate language.

Besides learning computer programs, I have to take Accounting/Managerial Studies such as Principles of Accounting and Introduction to Business because these classes are also required in my major. In Principles of Accounting, I was introduced to the accounting cycle. This course reviews the fundamental concepts and techniques of recording transactions in journals, summarizing the transaction, using adjusting and closing procedures, and preparing financial statements and reports. In introduction to business, I was acquainted with the role of business in America’s economy, the forms of organization, and the various business functions such as management, personnel, marketing and finance.

In the computer courses, I learned how to create and make the programs. These programs are usually used by big companies. In addition, I started getting more interested in learning computers and hope that there will be more opportunities to get a job as a computer programmer. I am also a little attracted to accounting and wish I could understand and do better, so I can make programs which can be used by accountants. In order to accomplish my wish, I have to study seriously. Besides getting a high GPA and associate degree, I must get knowledge as much as I can, so I cannot just copy people’s work and cheat on the tests.

I am now in my third semester at LaGuardia Community College. I have changed my major to business administration because I want to continue studying at Baruch College and to get my BBA. I have completed 41 credits up to now, and earned a 3,912 cumulative GPA. Recently, I am taking 5 credit courses and going to take 3 credit courses in the second session. I have joined Phi Theta Kappa program because I have complied with all the requirements for international honor society of the two-year college. I think that I will be benefited by joining the program that will give me the best chance for my future career. Yet, I will be able to learn more about campus activities, and find out how my chapter implements opportunities for development in the Society Hallmarks of Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Fellowship.

Besides, I personally enjoy learning something new. I realize that learning is the most essential part in this life to achieve the fulfillment. I am never afraid of making mistakes because I will know deeper by learning from my experience. I was taught that experience is the best teacher and indeed valuable. Studying is my priority. In order to accomplish my mission, I have to make a huge movement in my college career. I cannot just rely on somebody else because being an independent woman is my dream since I was young. I always try to do everything by myself even I know that I am not good at it. I put so much effort for something I want to reach.
