Reflection on my ePortfolio Experience

As a full time student, I try my best to get an "A" in every class. However, that is not enough. How can I share my learning experiences with others? In this respect, creating an ePortfolio is the best way to accomplish this purpose. An ePorfolio stores my past and best assignments from college life. I realized that maintaining a sound ePortfolio would bring me long-term benefits. For instance, an ePortfolio gives me a chance to communicate not only with professors and friends, but also with future employers. Future employers would learn more about me from reading my ePortfolio; a sound ePortfolio would impress them and bring me unexpected career opportunities. With the prospect of so many benefits I could earn from creating an ePortfolio, I came up with my utmost courage to finish my “masterpiece."

In fact, I was invited to the ePortfolio scholar program last semester; however, I rejected the invitation since I wasn’t ready at that moment. This semester, I was invited again. There was no reason to reject the opportunity again. That’s why I worked very hard to finish my ePortfolio. I spent seven hours weekly on my ePortfolio during the seven weeks of the workshop. I was always the last one to leave the ePortfolio lab because I wanted my ePortfolio to be perfect. I always put myself in audiences’ shoes: anything that looks irrational to me is completely rational to the audiences. That’s why I would not allow any error to appear in my ePortfolio. It was a challenge, and wasn’t easy for me at all. The main reason is that I am not good at computers. But with the assistance of the ePortfolio team, I have learned how to post my assignments, pictures, videos and how to link websites into my ePortfolio. Creating an ePortfolio needed lots of critical thinking. For instance, it required me to think in-depth about the quality of my writing, background-selection and website-linking. I have gained computer skills and improved my writing skills through the process. It was also a valuable learning experience for me. I told other students about the excitement and benefits of creating an ePortfolio: "Something I can do, they also can."
