Airline websites

Lufthansa
Air France
Continental Airlines
British Airways
Singapore Airlines
Virgin Atlantic Airways

As a student of the travel and tourism industry, of course I am familiar with the above well-known airlines in the world. I always prepare trips by myself. Whenever I start planning for a trip, I will surf those airline websites first. Singapore Airlines is my first choice to fly to Asia (except Hong Kong). Continental Airlines is my favorite airline in United States; I like taking them to fly to Hong Kong, the continental United States and other North American cities. Lufthansa, Air France, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic are European Airlines. I compare the air fares within these airlines whenever I want to make a vacation to Europe.

Tour-guide websites

Fodor's

Frommer's

Frommer's and Fodor's are leading tour guide books. They are so helpful to individual travelers. Their websites are very user-friendly. I select a specific destination in their websites; they will give you suggestions for hotels, attractions and activities of that destination. Every time I go to an unfamiliar country, I will read their advice for my references. They really help me a lot.

Foreign exchange website

The Universal Currency Converter

The exchange rate between USD and other currencies is very important to me. It is a “must do” action to check the exchange rate before I begin my trips. The Universal Currency converter website is very user-friendly as well. I select what currency that I want to convert and the answer will come out immediately.

Tourism professional websites

ASTA, short for the American Society of Travel Agents, is the world's largest association of travel professionals. They have 20,000 members which include travel agents and other tourism suppliers. They provide education for travel professionals and scholarship opportunities for students in the tourism and hospitality major.

Tourism Cares is a non-profit organization for the tourism industry. Same as ASTA, they also
provide education for travel professionals and scholarship opportunities for students in the
tourism and hospitality major. I have browsed these two websites often; the reason is that I
want to search for some scholarship opportunities. Last year, I considered applying for a
scholarship which was provided by ASTA; however, as I did not have much time to write an
essay, I let the opportunity pass by.

Museum websites

The Louvre Museum

The British Museum

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Museum of Modern Art

If you are an art and culture lover, you cannot miss the above museums. They are “must see” museums in the world. I have visited all of them. Their websites let me know what the next coming exhibitions are. The Louvre Museum and British Museum represent Europe. I visit them almost every time I go to Paris and London. The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) represent North America. I go to these two museums often. Here’s a tip: MoMA is free from 4:00-8:00 p.m. every Friday. Do not miss the chance!

College websites

How could I miss my college website? The LaGuardia Community College website connects
me and my college tightly. I check my Netmail every day as I do not want to miss any
important news from my college. I surf the library research center very often for my research
papers and renew my books. New York University is a college with 175 years history. I would like to transfer there to get my bachelor's degree in Hotel and Tourism Management after graduation from LaGuardia. I visit its website to see transfer requirements, tuition fees and scholarship opportunities. Through the process, I have learned the history of NYU and know its campus more.

Media websites

The Wall Street Journal

BBC

Thirteen

Mingpoa News

Despite the fact that I am not working in the banking industry now, I still pay attention to financial markets. The Wall Street Journal is a prominent leader of financial news; of course, I will not miss it. Moreover, I can improve my writing skills from reading it. I read BBC news to keep my eyes open on the United Kingdom and Europe. It provides me topics to discuss with my British buddies from time to time. Thirteen is my favorite TV channel. It is an educational channel. Its programs are so knowledgeable. I started loving it ever since watching a documentary of Wal Mart. Besides, it features BBC News Time as well as British shows; I always like listening to British accents. The Mingpoa newspaper is my favorite Hong Kong newspaper as it is impartial and does not favor anyone. I keep reading it to know what is happening in my native town, Hong Kong. In addition, it keeps my Chinese from collecting rust.
