Educational Goals

My academic short term career goal is to Graduate from LaGuardia Community College in the fall of 2006. I also plan on attending Hunter College in the spring of 2007 majoring in Psychology. At LaGuardia I currently will have completed 50 credits after the spring session II of 2006. In order to graduate you must complete 60 credits so I am on the right track to graduation. My grades have also been increasing over the semester and hope to have at least a 3.0 by the end of the spring semester. I plan on meeting with an admissions counselor from Hunter College to see where I stand as a future student. I am also filling out Hunters application for spring 2007, and will send it our once I receive my grades for this semester.

My long term academic goal is attending graduate school so that I may earn my doctoral degree in Psychology, which will give me the opportunity to become a psychologist in the future. As a student I have made an effort to find out as much information as possible about this career field. I have interviewed two psychologists who have introduced me to the opportunities available such as the different work environments and the responsibilities of a psychologist. I have also done research about schools in the United States that offer graduate programs in Psychology. I also plan on visiting these schools and finding out what the requirements for acceptance are, so that I will be an eligible student in the future.

My short- term career goal is participate in an internship with my professor’s working on Research, which they have started to develop. I have already shown my interest in the internship and will be working with my professor to expand my knowledge and understanding of this career. I hope to understand what research consists of and the responsibilities that come with it. I also hope to meet people who help develop my network of opportunities in the future. I plan on doing this by being clear about my future plans to my professors and group members, hoping that they will offer some guidance.

My long term career goal is to become a Psychologist. I plan on specializing in Social Psychology because I am curious about the way people relate to each other in small groups; such as a small community sharing the same culture. I have also done a lot of research investigating what the people in this field of study. I have also planned on majoring in Psychology so that I may obtain my future goal. My internship will also help me to develop my career options and direct me in the right dirction.
