Assignment
Reflection:
- This
assignment was both difficult and frustrating to
complete. We had to create a full argument, complete with a
proposition, claims, grounds, and warrants. My favorite part of this
project was coming up with the claims and other components of debate, I
felt like I was making a real impact in the 2008 Presidential Election,
and that my argument was strong enough to suffice in an official
debate. My least favorite part of this project was thatI had to keep
revising it; I began to get discouraged. I revised this exam twice
before the professor let me turn it in, and I am glad she kept pushing
me, because on the finished product I got an A. From this assignment I
learned how to prepapre an efficient argument, and I also learned the
beautiful art of revison and its wonders.
Course Reflection:
- Always
looking for a good argument, I was excited to take Argumentation and
Debate. It was not that hard to learn the structure of arugumentation,
however, it was hard using that structure effectively in a debate. I
had a rough time with propositions, but after the Professor's help, it
seemed a little easier. Although they were a bit nerve-wracking,
I enjoyed the mini-debates, as well as the main debates, because they
allowed me a chance to create the best argument possible, all the while
trying to refute my opponent. I was used to drama, performing, and
public speaking, but argumentation was a whole new ball game. I've
never been one to be shy to speak in front of a crowd, yet I
found myself nervous whenever I had a debate, even though I knew
what I was talking about. However, it was fun debating and watching
others debate, and I enjoyed this course very much, it ranks as my
second favorite. I have no doubt that effective argumentation and
debate will be useful to me in my future.
