About Me

Let me tell you a little about my history. My name is Alvonya Ellison. I'm the youngest of three siblings. I'm a friendly person that speaks her mind and does not hold back. I ask a lot of questions so I can understand more about topics with my Professors and my classmates.

I attended Harry S. Truman High School and I graduated in June of 2004. My main goal was to attend Bronx Community College in the fall, but did not really make up my mind to pick a major. So I enrolled myself in a non-profit Technology School called Npower inNovember of 2004.

StreetWise Partners had a great agenda that I had to go through in sessions. They helped me do mock interviews, prepare my resumes, enhance my skills in Mircosoft Office Applications, attend field trips and other great opportunitites. I also had a mentor that taught me how to be succeful in the work world and other tips, after I graduated from the program in the fall of 2005.

I then enrolled at Npower I was in heavy training, such as in hardware, software, motherboard, setting up computers, laptops, and installing programs in a four month period. Luckily I graduated in January of 2006. While attending school, I was in a program that was called StreetWise Partners. StreetWise Partners is a program that helps young adults to accomplish their goals in a professional manner in a five month program.

After my gradation, I interned with the Greater of New York then they hired me two months later. I had the drive and energy that I had when I was in the I.T field. After two years I changed career, I became a computer intructor and worked with Senior Citiezns. I love teaching and showing
senior citiezns new materials, plus they can teach me a few things about life. I have been working with them for about two and half years now.

I even taught the senior citiezns in the American Sign Language program for an hour in class. They loved it, they even taught their own grandchildren. They always have a passion to learn and they really enjoyed my class. The senior citiezns brought their friends and loved ones to my class to learn.

I enrolled in LaGuardia Community College to further my education in becoming an Interpreter or a Teacher dealing with children that are deaf.

I chose LaGuardia because LaGuardia has the best professors and they have lab's with various software applications. My major is Deaf Studies, but it's under Liberal Arts. When I finish with LaGuardia Community College, I what to enroll at Brooklyn College to finish my education.

I want to have more than just a High School Diploma, I want to challenge myself and prove to everybody that I can do it . If you put your hard work and sweat into it, you can be very successful in life.
