About

Hello, my name is Meizi Li. I come from Shenyang, China. I was a Korean national in China whose native languages are Korean and Chinese. I finished my high school in China and as soon as I graduated from my high school, I came to the USA to study.

In China I learned two languages- Chinese and Korean at the same time. When I was in China, I communicated with people who could speak two languages, so we mix up these two languages a lot. It makes me uncomfortable when I only speak one language without involving the other. My Chinese and Korean speaking skills have improved since I came to the United States because there are not so many people who speak both languages. I practice specific languages with Korean and Chinese people. I am very proud I can speak two languages; I make lots of friends and interact with both communities.

Coming to America to study was my dream since I was young. I announced it to my family when I was in middle school. They didn’t allow me to come to the USA alone because I was too young to leave home. Finally, I made a deal with them; as soon as I graduated from high school, I would go to America to finish my bachelor degree. So, here I am. I have been studying in the United State for two years. I love making friends; I am interested in many areas. It was hard for me to decide my major. I want to do many things in my life. I had once considered to be an accountant. However, while I was taking business law which is a required course for accounting, I began to be interested in Law. Finally, I chose my major as a Paralegal and now, I have a great faith I will become a good paralegal.

The first place where I studied in America was called Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan State. The first time I went there, I was very disappointed because Saginaw Valley is in the countryside. I am from the city; I felt Saginaw was a super boring place. However, I found it is a good place to study because there is nothing to do except study but I also realized that at our young age, we should not stick with studying only; we have to experience society and face many challenges.
